City on a Hill Health Clinic Hires Addition Mental Health Staff

Daniel Bechtel-Unekis

New Therapy Staff 2023

May 23, 2023 - Daniel Bechtel-Unekis joined the therapy staff in May of 2023. We are so happy he chose the clinic to begin his career.

Daniel Bechtel-Unekis was born and raised in Iowa. He received his B.A. in Spanish at Northwestern College before moving to Western Michigan to complete his M.Div. at Western Theological Seminary in 2011.  After his ordination and working in the local church, Daniel shifted his focus to non-profit work in social services. He worked within the homeless services sector both locally in Ottawa County and most recently at the state level with the Michigan Coalition Against Homelessness (MCAH). He completed his MSW at Grand Valley State University in 2023 and accepted a full-time position with the City on a Hill Ministries Health Clinic as a therapist.

Aside from therapy, Daniel’s passions include interactive teaching and training such as educating community members about the issues people experiencing homelessness face in our area. His recent volunteer work has focused on housing issues and substance use programming. When he’s not at work, you can find Daniel at home with his spouse and 3 cats reading, listening to an eclectic blend of music, or having a bonfire.
